Employment Equity

Employment Equity is an element within the BBBEE Scorecard, but the Employment Equity Act’s purpose is far reaching. Its purpose is to achieve equity in the workplace by:

  • Promoting equal opportunity and fair treatment in employment through the elimination of unfair discrimination; and
  • Implementing affirmative action measures to redress the disadvantages in employment experienced by designated groups, to ensure their equitable representation in all occupational categories and levels in the workforce.

Bidvest Magnum is a designated employer in terms of the Act and therefore has certain obligations in terms of the Act. These duties are contained in Chapter 3 of the Act which includes:

  • Consulting with employees
  • Conducting an analysis of the workforce
  • Preparing an employment equity plan
  • Reporting to the Director General on progress made in the implementation of the plan

Bidvest Magnum has an Employment Equity Plan in place and submits its EEA 2 and EEA 4 forms annually in terms of the requirements of the Act.
